Glossary -   Pancreatitis

This is inflammation (swelling and reddening) of the pancreas. It can cause severe pain in the upper abdomen (under the ribs). It can also cause nausea, fever, and jaundice (yellow color to the whites of the eyes and the skin). It can be caused by many things including alcoholism, infection or gallstones. People with cystic fibrosis sometimes have pancreatitis due to the blockage of the pancreas.
